Then turning towards the outer landscape, we will immerse ourselves in this beautiful land and its ancient memory, writing about the reflections that filter back to our own lives.
We will visit the sites where so many tales began and absorb the lives that were once lived there. We will focus primarily on Ronda’s Islamic legacy, which strongly defines the visible and invisible character of this land and its soul.

Tai Chi and Qigong is a body mind energy management system that comprises correct breathing techniques, balance and neuromuscular training as well as stress, and emotional management. Tai Chi elicits the relaxation response and balances the autonomic nervous system thus regulating respiration, heart rate, blood pressure and vitality in general.
With regular practice Tai Chi has been shown to increase lung capacity, improve physical posture, cognitive functioning and mental health. Medical research cites that Tai Chi has been observed to improve the quality of life for some people struggling with long Covid, COPD, chronic fatigue, PTSD, depression, and other medical and mental health conditions.

Workshop leaders Jane Bartholomew and Rebecca Heazel will look at how both diet and stress can impact the immune system and offer some tools and tips to improve immune system response.

A typical day will procede as follows:
The day will start with a leisurely breakfast followed by an hour of mat Pilates late morning, invigorating the senses, mobilising joints, challenging balance and improving fitness. All this builds towards increased body awareness, how it moves and how different areas function. Posture and alignment are looked at, exploring the core and pelvic floor muscles and the role they play, before finishing off with 20 minutes of stretching.
We will then have free time before lunch and after lunch until the evening session which will be before dinner. This will concentrate more on flow and mobility by using chi ball methods. We will then finish off with relaxation, and a guided meditation.

“I believe that our greatest teacher is within and that our body knows best what it needs if we could only learn to listen. My aim is to help guide people to access the inner wisdom within each and every one of us by offering practices which promote the gentle release of tension and old, outdated physical and mental holding patterns which hinder us in our daily lives.
“Over recent years I have become interested in different movement practices including somatics and feldenkrais which I weave into my teaching with the emphasis on building inner awareness and cultivating kindness as we explore our inner experience.
“We will practice together twice each day (mid morning and late afternoon) focusing more towards opening and receiving with mindful movement in the mornings and letting go and grounding practices using the breath and sound in the afternoon practices. Everything that is offered is by way of invitation with the emphasis being on developing our ‘inner ear’ so that we are more able to listen inwardly and respond to our own needs with kindness.

The Alexander Technique is a method of self-awareness on many levels. It is very simple and can be understood by anyone, yet at the same time it is very profound; It is a way of improving balance, posture and co-ordination. Our bodies are our most precious possession, yet most of the time we give little attention to them, apart from wondering ‘how do I look’; or ‘am I dressed right?’; The human body is, in fact, an amazing anti-gravity mechanism, but most of us unconsciously interfere with the natural working and reflexes to such an extent that more than ten million people in England alone suffer acute backache every year. It is also estimated that many more people will suffer from asthma, insomnia, arthritis, headaches and migraine, all due to stress or excess muscle tension throughout the body. By practising the Alexander Technique you will bring more awareness to yourself, thus finding new ways of moving, reducing the strain placed upon the body.
By using the Alexander Technique you will learn how to move with gravity, instead of against it, thus achieving greater ease of movement which will in turn affect your mental and emotional outlook on life; you will feel calmer, less stressed and therefore have a greater control of your own life.
